Los Gatos 2011: San Francisco

On Thursday, June 24th, we took a leisurely drive into SF with the Toyota Prius. It’s so much better now to drive in – and so much easier when you are using Map Quest instructions uploaded to your iPod!

We timed our arrival around 1pm as we were meeting up with Robert’s old HS friend. The luncheon took place at Samovar Tea Lounge, not far from the Contemporary Jewish Museum. This a quaint restaurant if you’re really into tea! I’m not a big drinker myself, but I ordered a Thai Chilled Tea and a chicken sandwich.

We did have a lot of fun here. I’m not one to eat outside normally, and it looked like a nice day with no clouds in the sky. I didn’t think anything about it until much later and after we got back to Los Gatos – I was a baked lobster! I had no idea! Luckily there was no stinging, but as I write this blog entry, I’m still very red – I think it will take a few weeks to return to normal. I underestimated the California sun for sure!

The remainder of this day was spent shopping for little gorgeous things at Hermes, Gump’s and a few other stores in downtown San Fran.

We then needed to look around for a place to eat – we found Kan’s Restaurant in Chinatown. We were sort-of pulled into the restaurant by a woman who was outside showing people the menu and saying, “Good food inside. You will like.” How can you say no this kind of marketing? The service and food was actually rather good after all. Of course, I was in shock when they brought me my Diet Coke in a class and not a can AND a glass. I thought, “Oh…free refills in a Chinese restaurant, how novel is that?” Sadly, my shock was short lived. Refills were $2.00! LOL Damn. Guess I can’t have it both ways. They did get a decent tip, however, but I haven’t completed my review on this yet ;)

The final event for the evening was our show, “Beach Blanket Babylon!” We happened to do this show a few years back, but as long as there is always politics, scandals and crazy celebs, this show will never get old. If you live in San Fran, yes, it’s a “tourist show,” but its fun none-the-less.

I recommend this if you are visiting San Fran!
